Mom's birthday cake. I don't know if anyone else has ever seen M*A*S*H but my family absolutely loves it! It's pretty funny, I tried to add in some of the jokes from the show like the red long johns and the spam lamb on the right. It was a pink velvet raspberry cake with vanilla frosting, my mom's favorite.

This is just a small sunflower birthday cake I made for work.

Homecoming and Cakes

Friday night was homecoming back home. My brother Willy is a senior this year so I went to watch him play. I sat by both of my sisters and my brother JD along with their friends. It was so much fun to get to spend time with them all. I love my family and it is so great that we all get to hang out together again now that JD is back from his mission. Here are some pics from the night. We forgot our cameras so these were taken with my phone which doesn't have a very good camera.

Thursday was my brother's friend, Megan's birthday and since I was going down already, they asked my to bring her down a cake. It's actually made out of rice krispy treats. I also made my own fondant for the first time for this one. It's Cinderella's carriage.

This morning I had a couple cakes to make for a little boy's first birthday. They wanted a small smash cake for him and then a larger cake for everyone else.

I'm pretty sure it's been two weeks since my house has been truly clean and I'm sitting here dinking away on the computer and snacking on tortilla chips. I can't even blame this negligence on being overly busy because truthfully I'm not, or at least not with the things that I should be busy doing. Most days I would feel guilty and even a little useless pushing aside things that desperately need to be done. But not today. Today I really don't care. I think I'm just emotionally exhausted. I don't know if any of you have ever felt like you had a hundred little things tugging on your emotions but that's how I'm feeling today. I like to think that everyone has these days... Hopefully I'm not the only one. Tomorrow I have to get back to my normal routine but for today I will sit here and be idle with my time. Normally I wouldn't think of blogging as being an idle activity. Most of the time I feel like it is something that I should do but when I have dishes sitting in the sink and laundry from a week ago still in the basket waiting to be folded, it's probably not the best use of my time.

Not that I've confessed my current laziness to all who read my blog... :) I've been meaning to put up my newest cake photos so here they are.

This weekend I made a wedding cake. I think that it is the best cake that I have made so far. Everything went so smoothly. I hope it means that I'm getting better instead of just being a fluke :)

This is another wedding cake that I made a couple of weeks ago. It's not completely finished. They were putting flowers on top and some kind of decorations around the bottom.

Birthday!

I'm a couple of weeks late but my birthday was great! I had such a blast. We went to north to Provo just so that we could eat at Rodizio Grill. Yumm! We also went and saw Despicable Me in 3D. We've seen it twice now because it quickly become one of my new favs.

for my birthday, I got this awesome new radio/stereo for my car. My old one had been on the outs for quite awhile.

Along with it I got a holder for my Iphone so I can play it through the stereo and a few really cute shirts. Mark was such a sweetheart and he went shirt shopping with me.

He also made me this totally awesome cake all by himself!

Didn't he do an amazing job? Here's proof that he really made it.

The reason it's a giraffe for all who don't know, giraffes are my absolute favorite and always have been. One day I'll have to share with you my enormous collection of all things giraffe.

Thursday & Friday's Meals

On Thursday we had Lasagna Roll-Ups and No-Knead Dinner Rolls.

I have never been successful with yeast unless I can just toss it in the breadmaker so I was a little hesitant about trying my hand at home made rolls again. I'm really glad I gave it a shot though. This roll recipe was great for me because it gave me an exact temperature that my liquid needed to be heated to. So I was so excited to see my rolls overflowing from the muffin tin :). The only problem I had with them is that they got a little too brown... the recipe is from my boss who is from Spanish Fork, UT and apparently things cook a little faster down here than up there. They still tasted good though.

Last night we had Baked Taquitos and Cinnamon Rolls. Again I was a little scared about the yeast but it worked out great and I think I'm going to make more for tomorrow.

I didn't take pictures again... I prefer blogs that put up pictures of what things look like so I'll try and make sure to get pictures here on out.

This afternoon, we cheated and ate at Cafe Rio with Mark's family. Afterward we went and saw Inception. I wasn't a huge fan. It was pretty interesting but I don't do well watching stressful movies, which this one was and the last 45 minutes I couldn't wait for it to just be over. The way they ended it was frustrating to me too because it was left kind of hanging so then, I wanted it to keep going so it would just be finished. In any case, it was still fun to get out for the day.

New and Old Recipes

Last night I made my mom's Honey Oat Bread in my bread maker. To go with it I made some honey butter and some raspberry honey butter. My favorite was the raspberry and Mark liked the normal honey butter best but they were both so yummy!

Today was our first day of our pact to eat in. I made Honey Lime Chicken Enchiladas. I really liked the flavor of the chicken. I forgot to cover the enchiladas with tin foil though and the tortillas came out a little crunchy but they were still satisfying. I also made some cocoa brownie bites for dessert. I've made these a couple times before and I think it's my favorite homemade brownie recipe that I've had. I really like how they taste but they are very rich.

My brother is coming home!

YAY!! My brother J.D. is coming home from his mission in Ohio on August 6th. His flight comes in around 4:40 that afternoon. We are all so excited to see him! August 6th happens to be my dad's birthday too so we are going to have a big party with all of us and there will be lots and lots of cake! :)

We have been in a bad habit of eating out almost everyday... It just seems so much easier seeing as there is just the two of us. We also thought that it was cheaper.... oh how wrong we were. We decided that it was time that we tried making our own meals here at home. I bought enough food for about 12 different meals and we'll be able to make each one twice. I tried to make it so that the things that I bought could be used for more than one or two meals. It ended up coming out to be less then $5 dollars per meal for the two of us together! Wow! They aren't just hamburger helpers either. ;) Each meal looks really yummy and they are new. I found all the recipes from different blogs. So as we try out each one I'll post up the recipes if they turn out to be as good as they look.

Brownies, Etsy, and 7 eleven

The Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery is doing great! This morning I made some ultimate brownie. YUM! We had strawberry cream cheese, chocolate cream cheese, and peanut butter chocolate.

For about 6 months I've been working on setting up an Etsy Store. I have my account all ready, now it's just a matter of getting some things up to sell. One of them will be felt cards like the one I made for Mark...

I also have something else that I'm really excited about that I'll have ready soon hopefully.

This is a gumpaste sheet that I made to place on top of my father-in-laws birthday cake balls. Yesterday was his birthday, 7-11 hence the 7 eleven logo :) I made chocolate in chocolate cake balls, red velvet in white chocolate and coconut in white chocolate.

Work at the bakery has been busy but I am loving it!! It is so much fun and it is exactly what I want to be doing. I love going into work everyday. For those of you who haven't made it over there yet, you should definitely make a trip over and check it out. It is the cutest little shop. The word about us is getting out there and we have a lot of fun things that we are planning.

I haven't done any really amazing cakes there yet but I do have some coming up in the next couple of months. Also I'll be finishing up one for tomorrow that should be cute.

I'll be making my first wedding cake tomorrow. Yikes! I'm nervous but so so excited! It's not only my first wedding cake but also my first cake made at The Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery. I'm praying everything will go perfectly because it really needs to be perfect.

Today I got a job at a new bakery that is opening up here in St. George!! I will be working as the head baker and cake consultant at the Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery. I will be decorating cupcakes, baking cookies, meeting with people to help them design their cakes and decorating them too. I'm am very excited, it will be the perfect job for me! The owners are so nice and friendly and it is going to be a great experience for me and I'm hoping to learn a lot!

This does mean that I can no longer advertise my own cakes. One day I will have my own business where I will be able to share my own yummy cakes with you but until then go check out the Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery! http://www.thesweettoothfairy.com/ They will be having their grand opening on Saturday, May 29th. Wow, I am so not good at keeping my blog up to date! It's been over a year since I've posted anything. I have however been keeping up with everyone else and their lives : ).

So, just a quick recap about the past year for us.
- We moved back to St. George! We love it and are so happy to be home and close to family again! We live in the same condo's that we lived in before we left for Denver just three doors down. Lol! How funny life is sometimes.
- I've been working on cakes and am loving that too! I've made some for family and it's been really great practice for me. I hope to someday soon go to the Wilton School in Chicago to take some classes. So far these are the ones that I have made.

These were my first attempt at decorating cake! I made these mini cakes for a friend at my work who was having a Lia Sophia jewelery party. They are supposed to look like little jewelery boxes.

This one was for Mark's brother Jeff. We made it for his missionary farewell. He is serving in Chile.

Her's will be a challenge though because instead of fondant, this time I'm going to make it completely out of icing. So it will have to be perfectly smooth and I'll get to practice making a bunch of different icing flowers.

New Job!

Today was my first day at my new job! I am a teacher's assistant at a private preschool called Primrose. It was so much fun and I'm really excited! I trained this morning and went and got my fingerprints and then after lunch with my awesome hubby and I worked in the young toddler's room for the rest of the day until I got off at six. I don't know with which age I'll be working with for sure but it doesn't really matter to me. It's going to be such a good job for me and for us. I'll have paid holidays, 11 days paid vacation, and we will finally be able to have insurance again! Plus it's really close, it's takes 10 minutes to get there. The other employees are so nice and friendly and it's what I really want to do. The requirements to be a lead teacher or group leader here in Colorado are so rigid, especially compared to down in St. George. I apply and was accepted to be a lead teacher at 2 different child care facilities down there (neither worked out since back then we were moving around so much.) but here you have to have X amount of college credits and hours of experience in a child care setting. So since I'm not going to be going to school anytime soon, (we need to work on getting Mark through first.) this is great for the time being. So I've finally found the full time job that I've been looking so hard for.

Christmas!

So we've been excitedly getting ready for Christmas! It's my favorite time! We have our tree, stockings, and nativity up. We have all our presents wrapped except for the couple that we are waiting for in the mail, and our stockings are even stuffed! Yesterday Mark and I made sugar cookies together and last week we made a rice krispie house (instead of a ginger bread house 'cause Mark loves rice krispies). This year I made an advent calendar. I found a bunch of Christmas stories, rolled them up and stuffed them in the pockets so we could have a story for every day in December.

Oh, and I did end up getting that haircut. It's super short and I absolutely love it! I'll have to put a picture up sometime soon.

Fun Stuff To Look Forward To!

I'm getting so excited! There is so much that we are looking forward to! Mark's birthday is tomorrow! He's turning 25. I got him some fun stuff that I know he's going to love! I just happened to get that day off of work because my employer had it off. So tomorrow I'll get to spend all day with him. We're going to Rodizio Grill again of course because it's his favorite.

On Saturday we are leaving to go down to St. George and Overton to visit our families! I can't wait! I miss them so much and it's going to be great to just have a whole week at home. We'll be eating two Thanksgiving dinners so we can be with both families. It's a good thing that I LOVE mashed potatoes! We are going to spend two nights in Mesquite, just the two of us. That's going to be really nice seeing as we don't get very much alone time now that we are living with Mark's dad.

Also when we go down I'm going to get my haircut super short. I've had it pretty short for awhile and I've loved it. I've always wanted it really really short though so unless I chicken out, which is very possible, this is how I want it. I think it's way cute!

Batman and The Tales of Beedle the Bard come out on December 4th so of course we're totally siked about that!

I think it's mostly the season that's got me so excited and jittery! I love this time of year!To me Thanksgiving and Christmas are happy, full of love, and time spent with family and friends! I'm huge into Christmas and everything about it. Cheese balls from the mall, driving around and looking at the lights, looking at the temple with all of it's lights, decorations, Christmas tree, stockings, a new ornament(Mark and I decided to but one new ornament every year, we are doing snowmen) hot chocolate, christmas music (it's one of my favorite parts), being with family, yummy smelling candles, family traditional games and activities on Christmas Eve, advent calendars, 12 days of Christmas, giving presents and seeing the joy that it brings to loved ones, I just love it all!

Halloween Anniversary

Mark and I met on Halloween, two years ago. My roommates and I were having a little Halloween party at out dorm and we had invited a few friends. One of the friends was someone that they had known in high school, her name was Katie and she brought a date. He walked through the door, dressed as Clark Kent and I thought he was so cute! We flirted all night long. My roommates and I were talking about our plans to go and see The Prestige that weekend and he asked if he could come. Without thinking I blurted out "YES" really loud and excitedly. I was so embarrassed! He must not have thought I was that big of a dork because he still wanted to marry me.

This Halloween we celebrated by going to our favorite restraunt, The Rodizio Grill. It is so yummy! They only have two, one in Salt Lake and one here in Denver. Yes, that was one of the factors for us moving here! ; )

YAY! We are excited to have our own blog page. Quite a few of my friends have them and I've loved reading them. I'm not going to lie, I had a pretty hard time setting this up but now I think I've got it all figured out and it's going to be fun!
